GMS 6-8 Principal Spotlight - 9/12/2025

Hello GMS 6-8 Families.  Our first full week went very well.  Students are figuring out schedules, lockers, lunches and after-school departure.  We greatly appreciate that students who are walkers, bikers, or parent pick-up are waiting for both waves of buses to depart.  This really helps with safety and efficiency.

Open House participation from families was amazing!  You easily surpassed our goal to double the attendance from last year. Thanks so much for taking the time to join us for the opening assembly, tour classrooms, and greet the GMS staff.  On Monday at lunch, we’ll announce over 50 students who won prizes from the Open House drawing.

Participation was not only great at Open House, both 6th and 7th grade averaged right around 99% attendance for the first full week of school.  For 6th grade, that means 199 out of 201 students per day.  What educators notice?  Most students with great attendance experience less anxiety, feel more confident regarding classwork, acquire less homework, have better grades, feel more connected to classmates, are happier, and learn more!

Regarding the Ecology School Trip?  On Wednesday evening, there were about 85 parents who attended the  Meeting for 7th grade families.  Missed the meeting?  Just follow the link, and find additional links within the document.  We’ll be sharing information with students soon, and keep families posted as the trip gets closer.

For all 6-8 families, please take a few minutes to read this Parent Notification Letter regarding Maine’s mandated assessments. Data from this year’s testing will help guide our planning for the future.
