From the Superintendent

As the last school buses left the campus today transporting students home for the summer, the 2021-22 school year officially came to a close, leaving us with only memories of the year gone by. For a school year that was largely defined by the tossing and turning of a waning pandemic, it was a welcome change over the last several months as we experienced the gradual return to 'normalcy.' I feel optimistic about the upcoming school year and its promise of mission-centered learning and teaching as our fundamental focus, absent the distractions of the last two years. It's time to turn the page and write a new chapter in the life of our school community, its students, staff, and parents. Onward and upward!

Many thanks for the support shown this week by voters in approving the 2022-23 SAD budget by a 72% margin, along with 82% support for renovations to the Mabel I. Wilson School. Additionally, the district's capital reserve funds will be used to improve our facilities over the summer in many areas, with a specific focus on safety upgrades.

Please join me in extending gratitude and appreciation to our long-time retiring staff members, who have dedicated their careers to serving students with commitment, caring, and excellence:

Bob Anthoine, GHS physical education teacher
Ann Beatty-Rose, GMS 6-8 special education teacher
Vance Benoit, GMS 4-5 classroom teacher
Laurie Chapman, GMS 6-8 educational technician
Esther Coyle, GHS math teacher
Donna Hobbins, GMS 4-5 special education teacher
Kathi Kearney, K-8 teacher of gifted/talented
Sally Loughlin, MIW principal
Doug Pride, GHS math teacher
Edie Taylor, GHS educational technician

I wish you and your family a wonderful summer!

Regards,
Jeff Porter
