Principal' Spotlight - May 5th

Hello GMS Families,

Full House!  This week concluded with a huge group of 6th and 7th graders attending the Spring Fling Step-Up Dance.  Back from spring break, attendance improved each day, with 97% of all 6-8 students at school on Friday.  Let’s keep that momentum going for these last 6 weeks of school!

Reminders of the week#1 Students who walk, bike, or ride with parents need to wait by the school until the 2nd wave of buses leave.  This is safer, and helps us move buses out on time.  #2 Students can access a phone in the front office, so it’s very helpful if parents do not text students (or expect students to check phones) during the school day.  Most students do a great job of keeping phones in backpacks between arrival and when school’s out.  #3 And, the GMS “Back to the 80’s” Drama Production is coming!  See below, and add dates to your calendar.

In the classroom

6th Graders in Mrs.Adams class tested their Ice Cube Keepers. This project is a staple of GMS science and has been around for decades! Ask your child what materials would warm an ice cube. See if they can remember the difference between conduction and convection. For some good ole fashion family fun (and competition), repeat the experiment at home!

Happy May to all,

Dr. Monte Selby, GMS 6-8 principal
